SLSC 2018: Chapter 2

Sunday Afternoon Races
Our first Sunday afts of the season was a two-fleet affair – 420 and laser. In the laser fleet, we had a total of five boats and David DesBrisay took home the gold #RichardRobertsWasn’tThere #GoodLuckRepeatingThatNextWeek. Amy DesBrisay and Kate Thomas won the 420 fleet (#DéjaVu) and, unlike Dad, it would not be surprising if they were to repeat that next week, at our second Sunday Afts installment.

Sarnia
Nixon and Ruby participated in a training day with Ontario Sailing Team coach, Thomas Fogh, followed by Sailfest Sarnia Regatta this weekend. They raced amazingly and we’re all looking forward to hearing about their weekend adventures.

Afternoon Race Program
Unfortunately, we have no ARP this week as the instructors will be running a learn-to-sail program with the Lindsay Boys and Girls Club. Fortunately however, we aren’t totally getting rid of our ARPers – if you are itching to get out on the water for some extra sailing, we need volunteers to help us with the Boys and Girls Club! Even if you aren’t itching to get out on the water and would much rather have a sailing-free afternoon in which you can relax and hang out with your friends, don’t!!!! Change your mind and sail, because we REALLY want you to stick around and sail. It’s like ARP but free! And we give you lunch! And volunteer hours! It isn’t actually at all like ARP, but your instructor team would really appreciate the help.

Tuesday Movie Night
It’s week two and I’m already struggling to come up with a creative way to introduce movie night. If anyone has any ideas, send me an email at [email protected] or call the hotline: 1-800-WIT-TIPS #OnlyKindOfJoking. The movie will start at 6:00 and run until 8:00 and costs a dollar for entry. Freezies will be sold, and popcorn and juice will be served (please bring a re-usable cup). If you are 13 or turning 13 by the end of this year, you are eligible to stay for a second film, usually a horror movie.

Wednesday Fun Day: Balloon Day
Despite the environmental implications of releasing hundreds of balloons onto a lake, and the financial implications of doing so over a small, portioned off area filled with many, many expensive boats who occasionally crash into each other, balloon day is one of SLSC’s most anticipated fun days. This two-part balloon-themed extravaganza will end with a pizza lunch brought to you by the amazing Christina Hall. We will end sailing club at 1:00 instead of 12:30 in order to factor in time to eat this Italian delicacy.

Friday Dance: Hawaiian (I think)
This Friday night, from 7:00 to 9:00, the Silvers will be running a dance (which I believe is Hawaiian themed). Theme confirmation will be given by the Silvers on Thursday morning at the latest, but it costs a dollar at the door #CheapChildcare, and pop, freezies, and candy will be sold separately (at slightly less economical prices than the entrance fee).

Missing Allergy Medication
On a more serious note, last Friday, at the pajama dance a clear plastic backpack with “Holt” written on it, containing an epi pen and other allergy medication, went missing. If everyone could double check their bags to make sure that it wasn’t accidentally taken home, that would be much appreciated. If anyone knows anything about the disappearance of the bag, please let me know by email ([email protected]).

Reminders
All sailors should be wearing close-toed shoes in the boats. Sailors who need to buy a pair should look to Kate Gilchrist and her brand-new pair of Crocs for inspiration. Secondly, please dress for the weather! Last week we had unbelievably warm conditions, but even during these extreme heat events, it can get chilly on the water.

Finally, a reminder to both parents and sailors that sailing club is a nut-free zone. Please leave your nutty treats at home to eat upon your return.

Lots of love,
Adele
