Time sure does fly when you’re having fun! Here we are: Week 7 of Summer 2013!
Last week we sent 15 sailors to the Cottage Clubs Regatta at the South Muskoka Sailing Club. SLSC finished the regatta with three podium finishes! A big congrats to Maija Rix on her 1st place finish in the Opti fleet, Christian Gallie on his 3rd place in the Opti fleet and Jacob Webster and Graeme Shea on their 3rd place in the 420 fleet!
This week the race team is off to Kingston for CORK which is a large international regatta that takes place each August. SLSC hasn’t been to CORK since 2009 so we are very excited to be sending such a keen group of racers! Good luck guys!
**IMPORTANT NOTE ON DANCES**
While we welcome and encourage children of all ages to attend our Friday night dances we want to remind parents that there is no direct supervision during dances. Lately some younger dancers have been wandering down to the water unsupervised. Please remind all children to stay clear of the water during the dances. We also advise having older siblings, cousins or friends keep an on the younger dancers.
Verulam and Pizza Lunch
We’ve decided to switch things up a bit this summer and go to Verulam TWO times!! We are very excited to be heading back to Verulam for another great day at the beach. Verulam is park just east of Sturgeon Point. We will be sailing to the park for a day of swimming, sand castle building and games! This week we will be going to Verulam on Friday and the pick up time will be 2:30. Pizza lunch will be served at Verulam. For $7.50 you get two slices of pizza, an ice cream sandwich and lemonade!
Dances and Movie Night
There will be a movie night this Tuesday! The first movie is open to all ages will begin at 6:30. Then, the second movie for anyone turning 13 by the end of the year will begin around 8:30. Each movie costs a dollar and includes popcorn and juice. BYOC! (Bring your own cup).
This Friday night will be the highly anticipated Boy/Girl dance! For this dance the boys dress up as girls and vice versa! The dance will start at 7:00pm and go until 9:00pm. Entrance is $1 and pop and freezies will be sold for $1 and 25 cents. See you there!
Wednesday Night Races
We will be having Wednesday night races again this week at 6:30pm! Sailors of all levels can participate. Ribbons will be awarded to the top three boats and there will be s’mores for everyone at the end of the night! The races will end at 8:30pm.
Sunday Afternoon Races
This Sunday will be our final Sunday Afternoon Races! Sailors of all levels and ages should come down to the sailing club at 12:30pm on Sunday. The first race will begin at 1:30pm.
Things To Bring
In promoting a waste-free sailing club, we ask that all sailors bring a reusable water bottle to club. There will be water available to refill your bottle during the day. As always, don’t forget a PFD, closed toed shoes, a change of clothes, weather appropriate gear (we sail rain or shine!), sunscreen, a hat and of course a snack!
Happy Sailing!
Keira & Kate 🙂
