The first announcement on this website of a planned summer event is, for many, a first sign that spring is around the corner and summer not far off . Well, here goes…SLSC is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the Laser masters sailors again in the summer of ’12.
On July 28-29, masters sailors (age 35 to 85) from around the province (and from elsewhere in Canada and, we are advised, from as far away as Northern Ireland) will descend on Sturgeon Point to sail in the 2012 Ontario Laser Masters Championships.
Sailors will be hosted at cottages around Sturgeon Point and breakfasts and a Saturday dinner will be served communally. Mark your calendars. We will be asking again for the help of our community for beds, food preparation, on water support, harbour assistance, registration, scoring and the like.
This gathering promises to be another fine celebration of sailing as a lifelong passion, a weekend of camaraderie, good food and (reasonably) good wine. We look forward to welcoming our masters guests and putting on a great event.
Of all the keelboat and dinghy races I have enjoyed over the years, very few have compared to the good fun and camaraderie of the Canadian Laser Masters on Sturgeon Lake in 2010. Competitive, friendly and supportive racing at its best at both the front and the back of the fleet. As we grow older, we realise that it is the “people” that make the difference, so I very much look forward to enjoying the company of our cousins, their extended family and friends around Sturgeon and the great bunch of master sailors that race in “the world’s most popular adult/ youth racing class” in Canada. Best regards from Northern Ireland.
