SLSC was advised by Ontario Sailing today that the Mid Ontario regatta has been selected as one of the Ontario Sailing Grand Prix Circuit events for the 2011 racing season. The Grand Prix Circuit is open to Ontario sailors aged 20 and under as of December 31, 2011. The results from the regattas on the Circuit will be combined and the series award winners will be honoured at the Ontario Sailing annual meeting in February 2012.
Here is how it works: Each regatta in the series will be allocated a particular number of points based on the weighted value of that particular regatta. This value will coincide with the number of participants that will receive points (eg. if the regatta is worth 30 points, only the top 30 in each class will receive points with 30 points awarded to first place, 29 awarded to second…and so on.) Each athlete will be able to use a maximum of 5 regattas to count to his or her total score and only a maximum of 2 regattas per month can be counted. Accordingly, to have five counting regattas, sailors must sail at least one regatta in May, June or September and then two in each of July and August.
The regattas that are part of the Circuit for the Club 420 are as follows:
Event (Club) Dates Total Points Available
May:
Lilac Festival (Royal Hamilton) May 28-29 20
June:
RCYC Open (RCYC) June 11-12 25
July:

If any of our race team sailors want to try to qualify for the Grand Prix Awards, thought should be given to sailing in a regatta in May or June. We will be it touch with all of you to discuss your 2011 sailing schedules.
