We are Looking to Hire for the Summer of 2011

It is the new year and, in the cold of January, we are starting to plan for the warm (and busy) Summer of 2011.  The strength of our program is due in large part to the skills, the enthusiasm, the imagination and the energy of our coaches.  We are coincidently looking for skilful, enthusiastic, imaginative and energetic coaches.  These job postings now appear on the Ontario Sailing website.  Marie Day and I look forward to hearing from coaches…before January 31,2011 (email address for applications are in the attached posting).

STURGEON LAKE SAILING CLUB
JOB POSTINGS
The Sturgeon Lake Sailing Club (SLSC) is a thriving junior club in cottage country about 2 hours northeast of Toronto in the Village of Sturgeon Point on Sturgeon Lake (nearest town Fenelon Falls).

SLSC was founded in 1956 and has been a very active sailing club for over 50 years.  The club is a junior club only and runs a morning program for sailors aged 8-16 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 5 days a week and afternoon community outreach programs, evening activities and weekend racing.

The club has a racing pedigree. It is the host, every other year, of the Mid-Ontario Championships and also hosts other provincial and local regattas and races in the  summer months.

The racing teams are active and the senior race team travels to junior regattas throughout the province.  The race program has grown and includes some afternoon training sessions. The average enrolment in the junior program is approximately 40 junior sailors for the morning program.  The afternoon program is an outreach learn to sail program  spaced out through the Summer.  It is for local organizations such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Clubs and summer day camps.  The SLSC has fleets of Club 420’s, Bytes, Mosquitoes and Optimists, with the fleet to be expanded for the Summer of 2011.

The coaching staff is comprised of a mix off coaches from elsewhere and local coaches who have graduated from the SLSC junior program or race program.  Those who come to SLSC from away usually find themselves immersed in the extraordinary spirit of our program and all of the activities that are associated with the program – movie nights, bonfires, dances and other kid friendly activities.

We have job openings for six full-time positions in total: head instructor (1), Senior Team  race coach (1), Junior Race Team/Bronze V Sail coach, Bronze IV coach, White Sail coaches (2), Mosquito/Opti instructor.  The head instructor will take one of the coaching positions as well as his or her head instructor leadership position.  We believe that all of our coaches should be coaching.

For instructors who are not from the area, room and board is available in the residence located on the SLSC property.  Salaries are competitive with other clubs and the experience of teaching at Sturgeon is incomparable – the setting is fabulous and the spirit is infectious!

To apply, please contact Marie Day at [email protected] with a copy of your inquiry/application to Hugh DesBrisay at [email protected] by no later than Jan. 31, 2011.
