Jacob Webster came out victorious in the 2010 Sunday Afternoon Race Series. Sailing with Graeme Shea, Jacob had victories in 3 of the 5 races sailed on the last Sunday of racing – a Sunday that ended up largely as a winner take all day of racing (given the lack of wind on other Sundays of the Sunday Race Series.)
Jacob will be awarded the mammoth Sunday Afternoon Race Trophy at prize giving on Friday evening, edging out Graeme, Adam and Owen for the big prize.
This trophy has a great history, having been donated by Ger Steward in the early 1970s for the Laser Fleet race series sailed on Sundays beginning on the May 24th weekend and going through to the Thanksgiving weekend. In early years, the series was dominated by David Barr, but as the years passed there are many different Sturgeon Lakers who have scrambled to find a suitable spot in their cottage to display the trophy.
The trophy was originaly awarded to Ger Steward for a car rally. Sailboats replaced the cars on the trophy and it became our own ‘world’s biggest sail trophy’. Congratulations to Jacob on adding his name to the list of winners!
