We had it all: a wonderful summer evening, a great turnout of friends, a spectacular setting at the Swanannoa boathouse, Uncle Peter’s punch, great nibblies from many nibbly makers, bartenders extraordinaire, many hands making lighter work, many laughs drifting out onto Sturgeon Lake, a long winded toast to Charlie Gray and Kerry MacMillan with a little of our history thrown in, some of those history makers in attendance and a Christening of Merry Mary, the newest addition to our growing fleet of Opties for the little guys, named for our merry former commodore Mary Prendergast.
Thanks to all of you who attended and who contributed to making it such a great evening. And thanks also to the organizers and workers, of which there were many, under the guidance and direction of overall skipper Leslie Thomas. And finally thanks to all of you who donated so generously to the Club. I hope you all have a warm feeling inside as did those initial donors in those early years, 55 years ago, when all of this was a dream that was beginning to take form. Our Club owes so much to those early founders and to the Sturgeon community that has supported this Club for so many years. All have contributed to the making of memries – great Sailing Club memories – memories that last a lifetime for generations of Sturgeon Lakers.
