Junior Race Team ‘Steers’ Golden Path

The Bronze Sail Race Team participated in the annual Port Credit Yacht Club Steerers Training Regatta on Thursday and Friday of last week (July 16-17) and performed very well.  Sailing in their biggest regatta ever, the team was fast out on the water and fast on the water when they hit the course.

A steely nerved Megan Thomas and John Gilchrist took top honours in the Club 420 White Sail Class (no spinaker) (by winning a last race, all the pressure on, winner-take-all, sit on the edge of your seat, there’s no tomorrow, now or never, nail biting  showdown with a crew from PCYC who were separated from them by 1 point going into that last race) and Jacob Webster and Nick Agnew placed a strong 6th in that same class.  Keira Webster and Claire Lourie raced in the very competitive Spinaker 420 Class and sailed to a number of mid fleet finishes against experienced sailors, a great result for them on the road to improving their skills and gaining some great experience themselves.

The Bronze Sail Racers have now had outstanding results in back to back weeks and they have our hearty kudos.  In their next regatta, they will all be sailing in the spinaker class.

The Bronze Sail racers will race in our Civic Holiday Regatta and then head off to the Cottage Club Regatta, a Bronze Sail Regatta at Stony Lake, on August 6-7 to complete their away regatta schedule for this Summer.
