A team of six SLSC sailors will kick off their summer training and racing season in Parry Sound at the 4 day “Big Sound Training Clinic and Regatta”. Sail Parry Sound has assembled a crew of excellent elite level coaches (including the Canadian Yachting Association Coach Rob Fox) who will be running a clinic and regatta in Club 420s, largely for cottage club sailors.
Megan Thomas, Thom Nyhuus, Keira Webster, Claire Lourie, Nick Agnew and Jacob Webster will head out on Monday July 6 with coach Evan Burtt for what has all the earmarks of being a fabulous learning opportunity, combined with a lot of fun … sailing in the pristine waters of Georgian Bay – true Group of Seven country – during the day and comaraderie, a bonfire, a movie night and other entertainment in the evenings. This will also be a great chance for our sailors to meet and get to know other sailors who are entering the racing scene at other clubs – sailors with whom they will be competing at regattas over the years to come. It makes the regatta scene a lot of fun if you get to know the people you are racing against.
We will miss our Bronze Sail Group in the first week of Club, but they will come back having learned from top coaches and be ready to set Sturgeon on fire. Have fun guys!
