Sturgeon Point has been blessed with many remarkable residents – people who have brought fun and energy and life to the community, people who have made it a community that is open and welcoming, people who have contributed mightily to making Sturgeon Point a place where so many of us feel most at home, most comfortable and most happy. Our community lost one of those remarkable residents this week. Trish Wisener had fought a battle with breast cancer for the last 13 years with such an incredible combination of spirit, tenacity and humour that we all assumed that she would live forever. Indeed it is hard to imagine a Sturgeon Point without her.
Trish was an instrumental member of SPA for many years and a contributor to the Sailing Club – everything from taking in and feeding large groups of Mid Ontario sailors to helping with the organizing of the 50th anniversary celebrations. She cared greatly for our Club and she had many connections to it: it was (and is) such an important part of the community she loved, it was founded by her husband Bob Wisener, her sons Jamie and Tim Wisener were able to spend their summers growing up at the Club and developing lasting memories and friendships, and her grandson, little Benjamin, will someday get to have that same experience of a Sturgeon Lake Sailing Club summer.
There will be a Sturgeon Point celebration of Trish’s life in early July – a gathering of family and friends and neighbours to raise a glass and to tell some of the many Trish related stories. We expect that it will be a gathering in her tradition – she was an incomparable teller of stories and gatherer of people (many many people.)
Trish had asked that anyone who would like to make a memorial gift consider the Sailing Club. We are very touched. Memorial gifts to the Sailing Club may donated on-line by following the link found just above the calendar to the right of this article, to our new on-line donation service, Canada Helps. Cheques may also be sent by regular mail to: The Treasurer – Sturgeon Lake Sailing Club, 87 Highland Ave., Toronto, M4W 2A4. A tax receipt will be issued.

A remarkable person. Trish’s memory and legacy carries on to all of our benefit. Thoughts and prayers are extened to the family.
We are all better for having Trish and Bob in our lives. They were very special and will never be forgotten.
Trish and Bob will be remembered as the couple with the open door to everyone. They were incredibly generous and always interested in making sure all were entertained, well fed and cared for. I truly feel they lived life to the fullest and are now reunited in heaven. God Bless their children, grandchildren and all who shared in their lives. A truly wonderful couple we shall always remember.
