On the first Sunday afternoon of the new format series, eleven 420s crowded the race course for three hotly contested races followed by chips and drinks and the ceremonial presentation of ribbons to the top crews. Sailors ranged in age and experience from Richard Roberts (now a Grand Master) to a young but enthusiastic Sophie Macey, sailing with her Dad Cameron. The team of Claire DesBrisay and Liz Barr came out on top on Day 1 and will wear the yellow jerseys going into next Sunday’s races (July 6), but others including Levi Macey (sailing with Richard) and Megan Thomas (sailing with her Godfather) are hot on their heels. Great performances were also put in by Claire Lourie (sailing with her Mom), Kate Thomas and Keira Webster (sailing together), Jack Macey (sailing with the Commodore) and others too numerous to mention this week. Show up next Sunday and you may find your name in next week’s report. Sailors should show up at 12:30 and anyone without a partner will be appropriately paired up, with teams changing every Sunday. First come, first served on the boats. Check out the Sunday afternoon race page for complete results.
