September 8 & 9 at Royal Hamilton Yacht Club – The final regatta in the Ontario sailing Association’s 2007 Title Series was the RHYC’s Cornish Hen Regatta which also served as the OSA Provincial Women’s Championships. Claire DesBrisay and Emily Fleck sailed one of the Club’s two new 420s and, with Kate Thomas and Kevin Robson unable to make it to the Regatta, Amy DesBrisay teamed up with Ellen Lourie in the other new Club boat. The Claire/Emily team proved invincible. Sailing their last regatta of the season together in strong and cold September winds, they swept…winning all eight races convincingly.
Amy/Ellen squeaked out a second place finish overall, even after having to retire from the last race suffering from a severe case of the chills. They had spent a lot of race 7 trying to right their boat in cold Lake Ontario before ultimately being assisted by a young competitor from Parry Sound who jumped in to help them and refused to get out of the water until the task of righting their boat was accomplished. A great example of the sportsmanship that represents the best in our sport.
A surprised Claire and Emily were presented with frozen cornish hens in the post race medal ceremony while being crowned the Ontario Womens’ champions for 2007 in the 420 class. Congratulations ‘women’!
Wow girls you certainly have come along way since i coached you… I’m proud!!
