September 15 & 16 – Oakville Yacht Squadron hosted the 2007 Ontario High School Championships on a magnificent and breezy September weekend. The reunited SLSC crew of Claire DesBrisay and Liz Barr sailed superbly (winning 5 of the 7 races) to become the Ontario High School champions in the 420 Fleet. Amy DesBrisay and Kate Thomas were right behind, placing second in each of the first six races before breaking through with a victory in Race 7. Ellen Lourie and Emily Fleck ended up 6th overall in the Regatta, having had to retire from three races on Saturday. They came back on Sunday to sail well, but could not make up for lost races. Kudos to them for their performance in tough conditions.
This regatta brings the 2007 racing season to an end…and what a season it has been! The Club has had fabulous results and lots of great participation. The team has become a “team” in every sense – a group of Regatta ready sailors who are well prepared and ready to compete. To top it all off, the next group of enthusiastic racers is set to join the race team in the Summer of ’08, in what should be another very busy season. We can’t wait!
